From June 15 to 29 June, Šibenik becomes the host of children from all over the world and this is the 59th anniversary of the International Children's Festival. For nearly six decades, Krešimir's city has celebrated children's creativity, imagination and play. It is a city of music, stage expression and songs since 1958 when the Festival was held for the first time.
Its aim is to foster old-school education of children and to develop children's creativity so in the streets of the old town you can find different forms of it - drama, puppetry, music-scene, film, literary and art expression of children and youth.
The ceremony of rhythm and sound will contribute to the various types of music and art programs in which children will show their childhood fun, selflessness, curiosity and play. During the festival, one of the oldest Croatian cities, the city of Šibenik, becomes a place where the streets and city squares are exciting to meet the whole world to delight children's creativity.
The International Children's Festival officially starts on June 15 in front of the Šibenik beauty - the cathedral of St. James, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The festival will be opened by the Theater Baj Pomorski from Torun in Poland performing the play "Jungle Book".
Festival participants provide full-day entertainment for two weeks on the streets and squares of historic Šibenik. Guests of the Festival will be entertained and impressed by artists from Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Finland, South Korea, Italy, Spain and France.
In the morning hours at various locations in the city, over 40 workshops will be held by artists from different countries of the world while the stone streets will be interesting with the open-air cinema in the evening so that children can enjoy youth movies under the beautiful Šibenik sky.
Evening shows and street entertainers will turn a walk in the old city into unforgettable children's adventure. This year, the International Children's Festival awaits thousands of children participating in the festival, who will acquire new knowledge and friendships in the city of Šibenik, a true friend to the children.
If you choose to cheer up your children and give them an unforgettable experience, remember that Šibenik is one of the few towns with two monuments under UNESCO protection. St. Nicholas fortress, during the Festival, will be open to visitors. Between the morning and afternoon programs at the Festival, let your destinations be the Krka National Park and the Kornati Islands, which will satisfy all your expectations.
