The best sailing spots in Croatia

You’re a sailing fan and are looking for a place where you could spend the summer of your dreams? Well, look no more because coming to Croatia is the answer - here, you will find everything any sailing enthusiast could ever dream of.

Hundreds of incredibly beautiful islands and islets, enchanting coast, picturesque towns and villages, and pristine sea are just some of the reasons why you should set sail for the Adriatic. It is a quintessentially Mediterranean region.

However, given that aside from numerous islands, you also have many coves, some peninsulas and other amazing things worth checking out, you may be wondering where exactly you should head. Well, take a look at our choices for the best sailing spots in Croatia, and you will have the time of your life!

Brač

The island of Brač is right in front of Split, so you can reach it very quickly. Exploring its coastal is bound to lead you to some true gems such as Splitska and Postira on the northern side, and of course, you simply miss out on Bol and its famous beach Golden Horn on the southern side of the island.

However, there are two more places you should definitely check out.

Lučice Bay is a perfect place to anchor your boat and just enjoy the sea breeze on the deck as the sun is setting in the distance. It’s a really soothing place, perfect for those who just want to take a moment for themselves.

Milna is an incredibly picturesque town with three marinas you can use and excellent seafood restaurants, and spending a day or two here is always a good idea.

Šolta

If you head with your boat from Split to Trogir, you will be able to visit Šešula Bay, another incredibly peaceful place to spend the night and simply soak in magical Mediterranean nights.

Other than that, you really should check out the famous Blue Lagoon on the island of Drvenik Veli. Čiovo in front of Trogir is also a great place to explore and find some nice beaches, so all in all you will have plenty to do if you head this way.

Hvar

Now we come to probably the most famous island in Croatia. Not only is Hvar immensely beautiful and Hvar Town incredibly picturesque, but you also have the option to explore the nearby Paklinski Islands here. This miniature archipelago has everything you could want on a summer vacation, from secluded pristine beaches, night clubs and even naturist beaches. A bit of island hopping will go a long way.

Also, visit Stari Grad if you have the chance because this fabulous little town was founded by ancient Greeks and is almost 2500 years old! Jelsa is another charming destination on this island which really has everything you could want - history, cultural heritage, amazing beaches and great parties!Sailing spot on Hvar island

Vis

Another jewel of the Croatian coast is Vis, and since this island is a fair bit away from Split, just reaching it will be a great pleasure because you will get to thoroughly experience the Adriatic as you sail through the archipelago and enjoy this part of the Mediterranean at its finest.

The island of Vis has two main towns you should visit: Komiža and Vis Town. The first one is your typical fishing town where you can enjoy a laid-back lifestyle and just take things easy, whereas the latter is actually derived from an ancient Greek colony Issa. So, two very different but attractive locations.

However, the nature around here is quite spectacular. You should definitely check out Stiniva Beach with its tall cliffs that almost completely cut it away from the open sea, and the Blue Cave on the nearby islet of Biševo is an incredible feat of nature. Do not miss them!

Dubrovnik

If you ever get the opportunity to sail in front of Dubrovnik, take it because there really isn’t anything quite like it. The incredible city walls of the Old Town will create an amazing backdrop for enjoying your boat, and the small island of Lokrum in front of them hides many secrets, including a lovely botanical garden and an impressive monastery complex

Furthermore, very close to Dubrovnik are the Elaphiti Islands, a small cluster of islands that is home to less than 1000 people. It can really be described as a paradise because of the lush Mediterranean vegetation, caves that can be explored and the fact that cars are only allowed on the biggest island of the cluster (Šipan), but even there, you won’t see that much of them.

Kornati

North of all the places we’ve mentioned so far lies Kornati National Park. Kornati is another island cluster, with more than 100 incredible places to explore. 89 islands and islets form the actual national park, and these are completely pristine and untouched by human hand.

You will see amazing sceneries here, with the deep blue sea being contrasted by the imposing stone formations jutting out of the water. An amazing place for a visit!
