Pet-friendly beaches in Dubrovnik

Pet-friendly beaches in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a historic city located in southern Croatia, on the Adriatic Sea. It is known for its well-preserved old town, encircled by ancient stone walls, and its stunning coastal scenery. Dubrovnik was a major center of trade and culture during the Renaissance, and today it is a popular tourist destination.

Visitors can explore its winding streets and marble-paved plazas, admire its beautiful architecture and cultural landmarks, such as the Gothic Rector's Palace and the Baroque St. Blaise's Church, and enjoy the views from the city's walls and fortresses. The city is also surrounded by lush hills and scenic beaches, making it a perfect place to relax and soak up the Mediterranean sunshine.

Dubrovnik is therefore a well-loved holiday destination, especially if you are looking for a vacation under the palm trees while getting your summer tan and bringing your whole family along. We understand that family includes pets as well, so we have made a list of pet-friendly beaches in the Dubrovnik area.

Where to go with your Furry Friend

Visiting pet-friendly beaches is a great way to spend time with your furry friends and enjoy the great outdoors. These beaches provide a safe and fun environment for both pets and their owners. Playing adv

Whether it's playing fetch in the sand, splashing in the water, or just taking a leisurely walk along the shore, pet-friendly beaches offer a unique and memorable experience for pet owners. Whether you're traveling with your pets or just looking for a local day trip, these beaches are a perfect way to create unforgettable memories with your four-legged friends.

Even though there are many pet-friendly beaches in the whole of Dalmatia, Dubrovnik has a pretty good offer too.

Danče Beach

If you and your pet chose to explore the stunning medieval city of Dubrovnik, you made a great decision. You and your furry companion will savor the beauty of Dubrovnik together, as well as enjoy the 5-minute journey from the old town center to Danče Beach.

This pet-friendly beach is one of the oldest in Dubrovnik and has crystal-clear water and rocks you can use to jump in the Adriatic Sea. The best time to go is early in the morning when the beach is empty, so you and your pet can have the beach to yourselves for maximum privacy.

Lapad Beach

Lapad Beach is a beautiful and peaceful beach located in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It is a well-known tourist spot that is famous for its crystal-clear waters, smooth pebbles, and stunning views of the surrounding hills and islets. This beach is also famous for being a pet-friendly place, where you can bring your furry friends along with you and enjoy a relaxing day out.

Lapad Beach is surrounded by pine trees, making it a perfect place for those who want to escape from the city's hustle and bustle. There are several restaurants and cafes nearby, so you can grab a bite to eat or enjoy a refreshing drink while sunbathing. The beach is well-maintained, and there are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas available for rent, so you can relax in comfort.

There are plenty of shaded areas on the beach, so your pet won't get too hot. The beach is also cleaned regularly, so you don't have to worry about stepping on any unpleasant surprises.

Other city beaches

Sadly, many of Dubrovnik’s city beaches don't allow animals. But don't worry, there are still many places you can go and take a dip without getting into trouble. These include the beach below the old hospital, Boninovo, Orsula, Gorica, the above-mentioned beach below the promenade in Lapad bay, and Sikirica.

If you take your pup out in public, you must remember to pick up after him or her, or you may be fined by the local authorities. Most restaurants are pet-friendly, but it is best to check with the staff at the entrance. During the summer, you can usually find seating on the terrace, so you won't have any issues.

Mandrac beach is the sole destination in Dubrovnik that allows dogs. It is a petite beach with no sun umbrellas; however, it offers instant access to the ocean, showers for canine companions, and nearby parking. It is the solitary beach purposefully designated for dogs in Dubrovnik.

Pet-friendly activities in Dubrovnik

Take your pet for a walk along the stunning Dubrovnik City Walls and enjoy stunning views of the old town and the Adriatic Sea. Walk through the narrow streets of the old town, visit historic sites, and stop at pet-friendly cafes for refreshments.

You can also rent a boat and take your pet for a tour around the beautiful islands where you can explore other pet-friendly beaches. Explore the nearby hills and forests on a hike with your pet, and enjoy scenic views of Dubrovnik and its surroundings.

Another tip is to take your pet for a stroll through the beautiful Dubrovnik Botanical Garden, which features a wide variety of plants, flowers, and trees. While you’re at it, you can pack a picnic and head to one of Dubrovnik's many parks and green areas, where you can enjoy a relaxing picnic with your whole family.

Pet regulations in Croatia

Taking your beloved animals on vacation to Dalmatia is an ideal way to have a satisfying break, but it is essential to remember to abide by Croatia's pet travel regulations. Before you embark on your journey, make sure your pet:

  • has a health certificate and pet passport,

  • is microchipped,

  • and has been vaccinated for rabies.

When all of these stipulations have been met, you and your pet are all set for a fantastic holiday in Dalmatia. So, grab your sunscreen and get ready to hit the beach with your pet!
