7 days in Split: a weekly itinerary for traveling on the Adriatic Coast

A week-long stay offers countless opportunities to broaden your knowledge of Split, to feel the city's spirit, but also to get acquainted with the city’s surroundings full ofjewels of natural and cultural heritage.

Split is at the top of the list of destinations you definitely must visit when coming to Croatia. It is a perfect getaway if you're searching for amazing weather, food, beaches, and parties. Localsclaim that Split is the most beautiful city in the world and beyond, and it is our job to make you see that for yourself.

To get the most out of your visit to Split, we are giving you a well-planned 7 days itinerary which can be helpful for everyone!

Just a few basic pieces of information before we start this trip: Split is the largest city in the Dalmatiaregion and the second-largest city in Croatia. It lies on the Adriatic seashore and it is linked to famous Adriatic Islands, such as Hvar, Brač and Korčula. In 1979, the historic center of Split, surrounded by Diocletian’s Palace, was included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

Much like the rest of Croatia, Split is the perfect summer destination. On the other hand, the low season is ideal if you are looking to save some money, but also to experience the real Split, filled mostly with locals.

Let’s get started, shall we?

Day 1 - Starting your trip in the heart of Split

It makes sense to start with the city center so we suggest you begin atDiocletian's Palace.

It is one of the best-preserved monuments of Roman architecture in the world and dates back to 305 AD. You’ll find yourself in what some may call a “small town inside a town” with small houses, streets, and squares. Outlines of the Palace are still visible but over the years inhabitants adapted the Palace, so nowadays you can find lots of local shops, coffee bars and restaurants there. Also, the entrance to the palace is free.

Your visit should also definitely include a stop at some of the town’s symbols: Peristil, all four of the Palace gates (The Golden, Silver, Iron, and Brass Gate), the Cathedral of St. Duje (from where you’ll get a magnificent view of the city and nearby islands), the Vestibulumand the Temple of Jupiter (Baptistery).

If you want to relive the life of the locals, there are only 2 steps you have to do: take a walk along theRiva Promenade and have a coffee in the sun for at least an hour – this is something a local in Split could absolutely not live without!

The afternoon should be reserved for the beach, so take a walk to Bačvice beach – a sandy city beach famous for the locals who play picigin there during the whole year, so don’t miss out on that!

Day 2 - For nature lovers

Even though Split has a lot of historical monuments, one of the highlights of this city is theMarjan Forest Park. It’s one of the city’s symbols and Split is commonly called ‘the town under Marjan’.

While spending a day in this Forest Park you’ll see why it’s the perfect combination of natural and cultural/sacral monuments. Not only will you enjoy incredible and breathtaking views of the town and sea, but you’ll see a lot of historic and small churches and towers. We definitely recommend visiting Marjan!

PS. It’s a great place for making amazing pictures and the sunsetsfrom here are out of this world!

Day 3 - It's time to experience the Croatian lifestyle

From Split, you’ll be able to take several boat tours to islands nearby. Experience the beauty of the Blue Cave (Biševo Island), Blue Lagoon (Drvenik Veli Island), Golden Horn (Brač Island), and a lot more amazing places.

Here is a Tip: come prepared, because these boat tours last for about 10-11 hours and the price range is around 100 euro per person.

PS. We’re sure you’re going to fall in love with some of these islands, so if you plan on staying longer here, you can book aluxury villa on Croatian Islands.

Day 4 - The perfect Instagram picture is only 1228 meters away

We definitely recommend visiting the town ofMakarska perfect for the party animals,Baška Voda with clean beaches and clear blue sea that’ll take your breath away, and theNature Park Biokovo!

Last year Biokovo became the place to be with the Skywalkplatform. It is a glass walkway at an altitude of 1228 meters above sea level! Just imagine the fantastic views from here! Your pictures are going to be phenomenal from here!

Day 5 - Wherever you go, you'll find stunning nature in Croatia

You really liked Croatian nature, right? We have one more special treat for you - Krka National Park! Visit the absolutely stunning waterfalls here and the best part is that it’s only one hour away from Split!

Here is a Tip for all the gastronomy lovers: visit the nearby city Skradin, often called a gastronomic mecca, and don't miss out on some of the most famous Skradin dishes, such as Skradin risotto, Skradin cake, čokaliceorbižot.

Even though you can spend multiple days exploring the beauty of Krka National Park, you should definitely make a stop in Šibenik – the only town in Croatia, and one of the five cities in the world with two UNESCO World Heritage monuments- St. James Cathedraland St. Nicholas Fortress.

Day 6 - A sweet treat for the last days of vacation: the historic town of Trogir

Let’s continue with a short drive from Split to the small medieval town of Trogir definitely worth visiting. The entire old town is declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You should definitely visit Kamerlengo Castle and St. Mark’s Tower!

If you ask locals, it's impossible to walk past homemade ice cream shops in Trogir without buying one. Some of these shops have a 100-year-old tradition of making ice cream. The most famous ones are 7 palms, Đovani, and Gelato Bar Bella - we tried them and they’re first-class!

Trogir is also famous for its great seafood restaurants, such as Vanjaka, Konoba Fortin, Piccolo Ponte, and Kamerlengo. During summer nights, almost every restaurant has live music performances, so you’ll make amazing memories here!

Lots of concerts, performances, theatre plays, and exhibitions are taking place all over the town's squares and streets during the summer so you won’t ever be bored in this stunning city!

Day 7 -Savor your last day of vacation

The last day of your vacation should be reserved for relaxation, so we recommend the following; make a day trip to the beach Žnjan, visit the Game of Thrones Museum or for an adrenalin push check out ZIPLINEin Omiš or raftingon Cetina river!

If you visit some of the places we recommended in this blog, we guarantee that you’ll make amazing memories and relive the Dalmatian lifestyle to the fullest. Croatia has a lot to offer and the locals are more than friendly and will definitely welcome you with a smile on their faces! Also if you’re looking for aluxury villa in Split and the area, there is something for everyone!

We hope that after your trip to Croatia the following quote will be more close to your heart:

“There is the endless coffee-drinking, there are dangers of mysterious drafts that lurk behind every open window, there are mothers-in-law, ubiquitous pillars of society and the absolute importance of wearing slippers, but there is also the meaning of friendship and life being lived in a slower, more connected way”
